Partnering with ICDL to build engaging, high-impact eLearning content
Introduction
Providing specialised expertise to elevate digital literacy with Office 365 eLearning courses
International Certification of Digital Literacy (ICDL) is dedicated to raising global digital literacy standards. Through their online platform, they offer eLearning courses to enhance learners’ skills in using common digital tools like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Already collaborating with another vendor for their Microsoft Office 365 modules, ICDL sought additional expertise in information development and instructional design to create engaging, effective materials.
We were pleased to provide that expertise.

The challenge
Seamless integration with an existing vendor to produce high-quality content
ICDL were already working with another vendor to produce eLearnings for the Microsoft Office 365 syllabus, but required information developers to collaborate with the existing vendor for instructional design and quality assurance purposes. Our mandate was to monitor review cycles, assess content, and provide feedback and technical corrections.
We also had to join an established vendor team in a way that minimised disruption to ongoing work, while independently managing and delivering our specific responsibilities. It was a complex task, but one we successfully accomplished by applying a robust collaboration framework and leveraging our deep expertise in driving user adoption.
Our approach
Maximising clarity, accessibility, and learner engagement
We quickly got up to speed and began reviewing content. We also began providing targeted feedback to move the project forward. In our instructional design and quality assurance role, we added value by:
- Ensuring full syllabus coverage across all modules
- Applying editorial and design standards for clarity and consistency
- Reviewing content for technical accuracy and instructional flow
- Flagging and resolving issues with eLearning functionality and audio
- Refining help pages and glossaries for user clarity
- Managing review cycles efficiently and proactively
- Capturing, actioning, and tracking feedback through to implementation
While the vendor focused on the technical build, we brought the learner’s perspective — ensuring clarity, flow, and accessibility. We made sure the content was intuitive, inclusive, and effective for all users, including those new to self-paced learning.
The results
Minimising business disruption, maximising user engagement
Our involvement delivered clear, measurable benefits:
- A streamlined review cycle that kept production on track
- Responsive, expert support throughout content development
- A single, trusted source of quality assurance and consistency
In total, we supported ICDL in producing 19 modules across three courses, which equated to 21 hours of eLearning content. These courses empower users of all levels to confidently perform both everyday and advanced tasks in Microsoft Office 365.
The result is a robust, real-world training experience that builds new skills and deepens understanding of key application features.
